Why Wagyu Usually Does Not Need Oil

If you choose to use oil, apply it lightly to the meat rather than the pan. This helps control heat contact without overpowering the natural Wagyu flavor.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

One of the most common mistakes is treating Wagyu like regular steak. Adding too much oil can cause excess smoke, uneven cooking and a greasy finish. Another mistake is cooking over very high heat for too long, which can burn the fat before it melts properly.

Wagyu rewards restraint. Gentle control allows the marbling to do the work.

The Best Way to Cook Wagyu at Home

Start with a hot pan, no oil and room-temperature Wagyu. Sear briefly, flip once and allow the fat to render naturally. Finish with minimal seasoning to let the flavor stand on its own.
